Summer. Think beach days, late nights and pool parties galore. But while there is no doubt it is the best season of the year, the sweltering temperatures and harsh conditions can wreak havoc on your skin and hair. Never fear, we’ve rounded up some of the best beauty tips and tricks for looking flawless all summer long.
Stay protected
We all know sunscreen is our best friend during summer, but did you know those heavy and oily creams are often to blame for unwanted breakouts? Opt for a lightweight cream or serum for your face to avoid shine and clogged pores.
Don’t over exfoliate
Exfoliating is great for smooth skin, but scrubbing away those top layers could leave you even more susceptible to sunburn. So make sure to exfoliate at night or on days you aren’t heading out to the beach.
(Fake) that tan
Fake that summer glow this season. Use a powder bronzer on your face to deepen your complexion and apply a self-tanner to your body for sun kissed skin without the UV rays.
Priming is essential
A must for flawless skin! Applying a primer will keep your makeup in place whether you are relaxing on the beach or sweating it out at the gym.
Keep it light
Sweat + heavy makeup = disaster. Stick to a concealer or tinted moisturiser to cover any dark circles or redness and let your skin breathe.
Stay oil free all day
Keep sweat and shine away all day long. Blotting papers will absorb any excess oil on your face, while refreshing sprays are great for hydrating your skin. Bonus, they won’t wreck your makeup.
Nourish your lips
Your lips also need some extra attention during the summer months. Keep a rich lip balm with SPF 15 or higher on hand at all times.
Don’t forget your hair
There is nothing worse than dry and damaged hair. Invest in a clarifying shampoo to tone your colour and a protectant styling spray to prevent damage.
